Antioxidants

There are 25.000 antioxidants in 1 teaspoon of raw cacao powder.

Quality over quantity

British chocolate is the worst for quality because it is full of hydrogenated or trans fats and sugar. Sugar depletes the body of magnesium and B vitamins and milk binds to antioxidants rendering them inactive in the body. Trans fats destroy essential fats, which help create hormones, in the body and thus have a detrimental effect on the endocrine system.

Magnesium rich chocolate is a great bone builder. Magnesium is needed to push Calcium into the bones.

A Natural Anti-depressant

This is one of the reasons many women crave it so much at a certain time of the month because it helps to lift moods and also because it is magnesium rich, it helps to reduce cramping.

Contains Pheny lethy lamine (PEA) dubbed the “love chemical” which stimulates the production of endorphins and serotonin. PEA  triggers the release of natural opiate-like chemicals that induce feelings of excitement, attraction and euphoria.

It also contains anandamide- the bliss chemical- ananda is the Sanskrit word for bliss.

This stimulant helps Chocolate to be an aphrodisiac. It emulates the feeling of falling in love and the flavanols (antioxidants) increase blood flow.

Cacao helps stimulate the secretion of several endorphins that are beneficial to a state of well-being- one of these is tryptophan which is the precursor to the feel good chemical serotonin.

Raw cacao contains very little caffeine. Approx 10 mg compared to 120 mg in a cup of coffee. Raw caffeine has a different affect on the body than roasted. It is much milder but still don’t eat it too late if you are sensitive. Roasting the cacao intensifies the flavour of course but this can be too stimulating on the adrenals.

Cacao is also rich in the mineral chromium, a blood sugar balancer.

Alternative sweeteners

White cane sugar damages arterial walls caused by its acidity and depletion. This then produces plague which can block the blood flow leading to problems with erections and heart trouble.

White sugar leeches out B vitamins that are important for hormones, energy, healthy skin and hair and the digestion of food.

It depletes also magnesium needed for bone health, calmness and sleep.
It leeches out Vitamin C needed to boost the immune system.

Agave is a cactus from Latin America. Raw agave syrup is a better choice over the heated liquid due to the enzymes remaining intact. The less a food is processed the healthier it is.

Xylitol- bark from the silver birch tree. It is naturally alkaline and suitable for diabetics. 

Fat is not a dirty word

Cacao butter is a healthy fat and contains oleic acid which is also found in olive oil. Oleic acid reduces cholesterol in the blood. Italians have the healthiest blood in the world and they live on olive oil.

French women are healthier and slimmer than the British. “Why French women don’t get so fat” is because they eat small amounts of dark, nutrient dense, appetite suppressing chocolate.
